Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

__________

I am probably the most impatient person going, I hate waiting for anything, which I find is always made ten times worse in a queue. But recently I had to learn this lesson the hard way.

Isn't waiting to hear from a job the worst?! You check your email about fifty million times a minute and every time you hear that email tone, your heart stops beating, only to find its from ASOS. Everyone tells you its going to be okay and you'll get the job, but interview after interview you still aren't where you want to be. Heartbreaking isn't it? I know this feeling all too well being a recent graduate trying to secure a job in the marketing industry with about twenty thousand people doing the same. Nightmare.

You go through stages of being really positive and then come plummeting down when you realise you've still got about thirty stages to go through before you even get considered. You send about twenty emails a day to the head of HR and get a vague reply, making you feel like all hope is lost. Yet, from these experiences, I have figured that getting a job is actually a two way process. Yes, you are being interviewed to see if you fit the company but equally, you are deciding whether you actually want to be there. There have been numerous interviews I have walked out of and thought this is just not for me. Its so important to make sure the job is right for you, and you just have to think that each stage is a step closer, even through the wait is excruciating. Just keep reminding yourself, glass half full and all that.

Personally, after four months of countless interviews, I finally did it. I got a job, and most importantly the job I wanted more than anything. So what did I learn? Good things really do come to those that wait, as lame as it sounds.

  1. Congratulations on your new job, how exciting! I truly hope you're happy there and love, love, LOVE it! You're quite right about deciding whether you actually want a job when being interviewed by the way, it's a two-way process :)

  9. That's such amazing news girl, congratulations on getting the job you wanted! I'm so happy for you that you got what you were after, and I couldn't agree more to your conclusion. Good things do indeed come to those who wait (and work for it, of course!). You do make me stress a bit though, I'm starting to apply for jobs soon as well, in more or less the same field (I'm in eCommerce and Digital Marketing) so crossing my fingers :)
