GRUB's Up!

__________

Up and coming products is something that really interests me. From new products in the beauty industry or food industry or new innovations in digital, I am always keen to find out about unique ideas or trends. I often spend hours googling and I think this is also one of the main reasons I started reading so many blogs [leading to the creation of my own!]

Last month I attended the FAB [Food and Beverage awards] Forum at the Google Headquarters in London. This was a massive eye opener to see what different food and beverage products were swarming the market [as a side note, the food was also amazing! Win win!] Within the forum, it was clear that there was a massive emphasis on foods of the future, including sustainable as well as healthy products. In the last few years, the use of chai seeds and coconut oil and agave syrup etc etc, has started to become a norm. With super foods, veganism and sugar free diets rising rapidly. This indicates that more importance is being placed on our diet, which I think is so positive. I personally really enjoy trying new ingredients, but I do also love a good binge [everything in balance!] Sometimes its hard to get that happy medium when everyone is getting busier and for me, snacking becomes my worst enemy. So when I received a snacking alternative in the post, I was super excited!

Eat Grub is a company that I have been following for a while now. Like I said, I am always keen to seen new products enter the market and one things that makes Eat Grub insanely unique; they sell and source edible insects. Yep, you heard me right!

At first, I was a little apprehensive but when I saw the beautiful packaging for the Eat Grub bars as well as the extensive list of benefits, I didn't think about it for a second. The Eat Grub bars have just been released in two delicious flavours, Cranberry and Orange as well as Coconut and Cacao, with the main ingredient being cricket flour. This under used ingredient is not only high in protein but also iron and calcium. The Eat Grub bars also have no added sugar, free from gluten, nuts*, diary and soya as well as being sustainable and a natural energy bar... The list goes on!

I tried the Coconut and Cacao Eat Grub bar first as these are two of my favourite flavours. It was so tasty and I actually enjoyed it with a cup of tea which worked well together as the bar felt like a really naughty treat, even though it wasn't! I have to admit, I wasn't as keen on trying the Cranberry and Orange bar but this really surprised me. The two flavours worked so well together and the bar was super yummy. Would I buy both of these products? Yes. Would I recommend them to my friends? Yes! It is a perfect on-the-go snack and with both bars under 150 calories, you cannot go wrong!

The edible crickets are next on my list!

  8. Ooer now this is certainly unusual to say the least! I'm not sure I would be brave enough, but we eat other animals so why not insects!?

  10. It's fascinating to know what goes into some health/food products, though I've got to admit I'm kind of wishing I didn't know 'cricket flour' was even a thing that existed haha! The low calories for grabbing-on-the-go is fab though, for sure! :)
